Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman said Sunday he’s “deeply, deeply distressed that 42 million Americans are going to lose their SNAP benefits,” which is why he has opposed shutting down the government.

When Jake Tapper, host of CNN’s State of the Union, asked Fetterman who’s to blame for the shutdown – now in its second month and approaching the longest in history – the senator didn’t hold back.

“I feel like the Democrats really need to own the shutdown. I mean, we’re shutting it down,” he said.

He added that his party claims to be “fighting for working people” but is using “the wrong tactic.”

“We can find a way forward. We need to find a way forward,” he said.
