Lexi McDaniel, the nation’s top college softball recruit last year, hit her first collegiate home run Saturday for the University of Oklahoma, helping the Sooners defeat Arizona 21-3.
McDaniel, who graduated from St. Joseph Christian School in Missouri last May, is the all-time leader in hits, home runs, RBIs and runs scored for her club team, ACES Fastpitch. She played year-round because her high school did not have a softball team.
A devout Christian, McDaniel chose Oklahoma in part because coach Patty Gasso openly shares her Christian faith.
“I just want to give Him all of the glory,” McDaniel told The Lion during her senior year.
The home run was also McDaniel’s first hit at the collegiate level.
The Sooners are ranked third nationally and are perennial national title contenders, having won four straight championships from 2021 to 2024.
