A new video from the Department of Health and Human Services calls out an alleged political patronage system in Minnesota and elsewhere that led to widespread fraud.

“This much is clear: Governor Walz’s administration is taking away money from working families and giving it to fake daycare scams,” said Jim O’Neill, HHS deputy secretary.

O’Neill and Alex Adams, HHS assistant secretary for children and families, placed part of the blame on the Biden-Harris administration for weakening protections against fraud.

They announced a threefold proposal Tuesday to reverse some of Biden’s measures. The new rule would:

  • End the requirement that states pay for childcare before services are provided.
  • End enrollment-based billing, basing it instead on verified attendance.
  • Stop the prefunding of guaranteed seats at childcare centers, restoring parental choice and market incentives.

O’Neill said Biden’s actions were akin to robbery.

“Across welfare programs, Biden administration policies effectively backed up a Brinks truck and sent the security home. In childcare, that ends today.”
