A California woman who spent 40 years as a Democrat “walked away” from the party in 2020 and is now a conservative.
“I never voted for a Republican in 40 years,” said the woman, 67, who was not identified, during an interview at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix. “I wouldn’t have dated a Republican. I gave money to Democrats. I campaigned for Democrats.”
Since her awakening, she has found “tons and tons of former Democrats in California,” but became emotional when describing how she has to hide her views from her leftist neighbors.
“I live in such a deep blue part of California, when I walk my dog, if I’m wearing a Charlie Kirk T-shirt, I have to cover it with a jacket or a sweater because I live among people who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s assassination.”
