The federal government has shed nearly 350,000 jobs since President Donald Trump was elected in late 2024, or 11.5% of its workforce, but U.S. employment continues to rise.

“It’s all private sector,” investor Kevin Hincks told Nicole Petallides on the Schwab Network on Friday. “It’s quite amazing.”

The U.S. added 115,000 jobs in April, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Gains were made in health care, transportation and warehousing, and retail trade, while the federal government shed about 9,000 jobs.

Unemployment remained unchanged at 4.3%.

The economy continues to be a leading issue with voters ahead of the November midterm elections, increasing the importance of this report.
