As major teachers’ unions plan a May 1 walkout, one Oklahoma public school teacher is calling on “common-sense teachers” to stand firm.

Julie Collier said the unions are “planning walkouts and strikes … all to try to desperately maintain their political power in America’s education system.

“But guess what? Common-sense teachers are not falling for it. In fact, we know how desperate the teachers unions are in America, because there are more and more common-sense teachers leaving their unions.”

Thousands of teachers have left the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers to join alternatives such as the Teacher Freedom Alliance, which is run by former Oklahoma state superintendent Ryan Walters. The organization provides teachers free liability coverage and opportunities to earn professional development credits independent of the unions.

Collier urged parents to pull their children out of school if their child’s teacher walks out.

“That’s a red flag,” she said. “That is not okay. You know there’s not enough education going on in that school if that’s what happens.”

In another video, she expressed her disgust with teachers who are leaving their “taxpayer-funded jobs to protest and using their students as political pawns.”

“Just resign,” she said to those educators. “You are ruining the profession of teaching.”
