In an age of deep disagreements, political and otherwise, Jesus’ teachings hold the key to loving our enemies.

Appearing on the CBS Morning News show in Birmingham, Alabama, Bishop Jonathan Woods of Love City Church in Forest Hill said the devil is “the only enemy we all really have,” and that when we are opposed, “even if our perspective is right, we should know how to disagree without disconnecting and disagree without disrespecting.

“Jesus often referred to loving our enemies. He really, really trained his disciples on how to treat people that did not approve of them or didn’t like them. He would say, ‘Pray for them.’ He would say, ‘Do good to them.’

“He was literally encouraging his followers to fly above the current as it relates to how they’re being treated, and treat people better than they treat you, and aim to show them how they ought to treat you by how you treat them.”
