Watch: Texas troopers find 23 illegal immigrants in truck cab during highway stop

Texas state troopers found 23 illegal aliens hiding in a tractor trailer cab during a traffic stop Friday near the Mexican border.

The driver, John David Amaya, 24, was charged with operating the vehicle without a commercial driver license (CDL) and 23 felony counts of smuggling persons, the state Department of Public Safety reported. He initially told officers he was alone.

The illegal immigrants were from Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Mexico. They were referred to Border Patrol, DPS said. 

The stop took place in La Salle County, north of Laredo, which borders Mexico.
