St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, has won a legal appeal after the state attempted to deny more than $30,000 in school choice scholarship funding for three special needs students.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty represented the school, which had complied with all required state protocols.
The funding application “had already passed through the auditor on our end twice and was approved, and the (state) auditor did not like a piece of paper that we were using,” said Principal Jill M. George in a video posted by the legal organization.
George emphasized that school choice is “important in Wisconsin because it allows parents to select a school that is in tune with their family’s values and belief systems,” adding that “for a lot of families, that is going to be outside of the public sector.”
