A prominent stand-up comedian and St. Louis native revealed this week why she left the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles to live in the Midwest.
Nikki Glaser told Live with Kelly and Mark she moved back to St. Louis after the COVID-19 pandemic to escape the coast. She explained her decision Wednesday on the ABC talk show, saying she’s staying in Missouri because it helps her stay grounded.
“I live in St Louis,” Glaser said. “I moved back to St Louis after COVID, and kind of just got away from it all, and have stayed there.”
The 41-year-old filmed her new comedy special at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in St. Louis. Glaser turned the taping into a massive hometown reunion.
“It was lots of people from, like, high school. It was, you know, people from my Pilates class, my self-tan lady from the strip mall. But it was fun,” she said.
She admitted her parents have developed thick skin after 20 years of listening to her explicit routines.
“They have hardened souls, like, there’s just kind of no life behind their eyes when they’re watching me,” she laughed. “I mean, they are so supportive. They’re so happy for my success. [Mom] just can’t believe anyone would want to hear this stuff that I’m saying.”
The Hollywood exodus trend
“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz relocated to Nashville following the pandemic after spending 21 years in Los Angeles. Metz told People magazine the move gave her a significantly better quality of life and put her within driving distance of her family in Florida.

Blockbuster actor Mark Wahlberg sold his massive Beverly Hills estate to relocate his family to Nevada. Wahlberg sought a better work-life balance and wanted to give his kids a fresh start, a life far away from the Hollywood bubble.
“Burn Notice” actor Jeffrey Donovan moved his family to Colorado after falling in love with his wife’s home state. Donovan told Fox News Digital it is vastly easier to raise three children in Colorado than in Los Angeles. He called it an incredible state and said they are never leaving.
