The Noah Webster Educational Foundation has helped put together free online courses to teach ordinary citizens how to run for a local school board seat. The courses are designed for beginners and taught by experienced school board members and educators from across the country.

Questions the courses will help answer include:

  • What are school boards and what do they do?
  • Where does their authority come from?
  • What’s the difference between a state and local school board?
  • Do I have the right reasons for running?
  • How do I launch a campaign and actually make a difference?

The first course is entitled “Introduction to School Boards,” and the second is “School Board Campaign Training.” An untitled third course is in the works.

The School Board Campaign Training course was created by Leadership Institute, offered by the Noah Webster Educational Foundation with the other courses as part of a school board training library. The two courses are hosted by Leadership Institute.
