A Nebraska middle school teacher was arrested last week for allegedly creating hundreds of explicit images of children using artificial intelligence during the school day.

Millard Public Schools teacher Matthew Lund, 47, taught science at Andersen Middle School. He was arrested at his home April 22 in Omaha after the Nebraska State Patrol served a search warrant.

State patrol began investigating Lund in February after receiving a cyber tip about more than 400 concerning media files uploaded to his Google account. Investigators identified children ranging from infancy to 12 years old in more than 100 files of child pornography, also known as child sexual abuse material, or CSAM.

“The defendant then admitted to generating the child sexual assault material of prepubescent children and masturbating to them while at work, where he is a middle school science teacher,” a prosecutor said, WOWT reported.

Lund had been teaching at Andersen for more than 14 years.

Although the Nebraska State Patrol has not found any indication that students at the school were victims of his alleged crimes, a TikTok video circulated in March appearing to show Lund reacting inappropriately to young girls wearing spandex.

The video was captioned, “Mr. Lund when he sees 8th grade girls in Nike Pros.”

One parent told KETV her son had Lund as a leader of one of his extracurricular activities. She said her son had expressed discomfort around Lund but could not identify why.

“You think you’re dropping your kids off and those teachers are going to protect your kids,” the parent said.

A grandparent commented on a news video, saying a granddaughter had Lund as a teacher and was an “absolute mess” after learning of his arrest.

“She KNEW just like many of these kids KNEW,” the commenter wrote. “They did 0 class work while this creep spent all his time on 2 laptops an Ipad and his phone. She also KNEW they were being videoed.”

Nebraska adopted a law last year making AI-generated child pornography illegal. Lund is being held in Douglas County Corrections and faces charges of possession of child sexual abuse material and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

His bond is set at $1 million, and he could face a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison if convicted.
