A committee meeting to discuss and recommend new sex education curriculum for a Texas school district was interrupted Monday when two online attendees broadcasted porn on the screen.

During the meeting hosted by the Fort Worth Independent School District, an anonymous participant on the Zoom call displayed pornography on the screen, visible to both in-person attendees and virtual participants.

“This is what our kids are watching in school,” one parent yelled during the meeting, according to the Fort Worth Report. “This is disgusting!”

Then a second pornographic video began broadcasting, after which the committee stopped the Zoom feed and took a 15-minute break before resuming.

Following the meeting, the committee issued this statement:

“Regrettably, some attendees during the online meeting displayed inappropriate content on their screens instead of identifying themselves or using a blank screen. We understand the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment during all school-related activities, and we take this matter very seriously. Our team is currently investigating the incident, and we will be taking appropriate actions.”

The district hasn’t offered sex education courses since it dropped its expensive online health curriculum last year.

In April 2022, the school board approved the $2.6 million purchase of a ETR HealthSmart subscription, to provide online sex education lessons for middle and high school students.

But after backlash from the community about its contents and progressive slant – some of it was reportedly developed in part by Planned Parenthood – Superintendent Angelica Ramsey announced the district would stop using the online curriculum.

“The (School Health Advisory Council) SHAC Committee will begin reviewing different options for the Human Sexuality Curriculum once the Board of Trustees convenes them to begin the process,” Ramsey wrote. “There is not an approved, adopted or recommended Human Sexuality Curriculum for the 2022-2023 school year.

“The delay will suspend the instructional delivery of the sexual education unit for the 2022-2023 school year.”

Following the interruption to Monday’s meeting, committee members voted to approve a curriculum, “Choosing the Best,” the “leader in abstinence-centered sexual risk avoidance curricula, training and recourses.”

The Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees will have the final vote on which sex education program students will use in the district.
