I delight to do Your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” — Psalm 40:8 ESV
Any study of the book of Romans is so liberating to see that God’s grace covers our sin. That when we repent and cry out for salvation, Jesus hears and saves us! Praise the Lord.
The great debate thru the ages has been, “then is it still necessary to live according to the Law?” The answer put, “that’s what repentance is all about.” Repentance is about turning from sin and knowing that God’s grace forgives our sin, but that should never be seen as a license to sin as though God no longer views sin as lethal. Of course, sin is lethal—the wages of sin yields death. But the free gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord!
In fact, the Law shows us our need for the gospel of salvation and forgiveness!
And so, throughout Scripture, we are encouraged to live as little Christs. And Christ was not a sinner! God’s basic moral will for His people has not changed! Everything that is morally commanded in the Ten Commandments still comprises the moral principles that are the will of God for His people.
May we, as Christ-followers, delight to do His will and keep His Law within our hearts!
