A toddler was suspended from a nursery in the United Kingdom after being accused of transphobia – sparking outrage from observers who fear gender ideology has been pushed to the point of “insanity.”
Data from England’s Department for Education, first reported by The Telegraph, indicates the 3-or 4-year-old child was suspended from the state nursery in the 2022-23 school year for “abuse against sexual orientation and gender identity.”
The newly revealed data didn’t indicate at which nursery the incident took place, but it appears to be part of a larger pattern.
A stunning 94 students were suspended or expelled from primary schools during the 2022-23 school year for “transphobia and homophobia,” the outlet reported, including 10 pupils “from year one and three from year two, where the maximum age is 7.”
The Department for Education has said all students should “feel safe and protected at school” and should “never face violence or abuse.”
“The Education Secretary has been clear that she expects school leaders to enforce good behaviour and we are committed to a comprehensive programme of behaviour support for schools,” a representative of the department said.
“Our Plan for Change sets out our relentless focus on making sure every child gets the best life chances, no matter their background, including establishing free breakfast clubs in every primary school, providing access to mental health support and making attendance one of the four core priorities of our school improvement teams.”
Still, the suspension is facing fierce pushback from critics on both sides of the Atlantic, who argue children shouldn’t be subjected to gender ideology at a young age.
“This is totalitarian insanity,” author J.K. Rowling wrote on X about the nursery expelling a toddler over gender ideology. “If you think small children should be punished for being able to recognise sex, you are a dangerous zealot who should be nowhere near kids or in any position of authority over them.”
“The demons are targeting our babies,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton posted on X.
A director of advocacy at Sex Matters, Helen Joyce, wrote that it’s “unforgivable” for children’s early years in education to be “traumatically disrupted by school leaders who prioritise activists’ demands over their charges’ wellbeing.”
“Every once in a while, the extremes of gender ideology throw up a story that seems too crazy to believe,” she told the Telegraph, “and a toddler being suspended from nursery for so-called ‘transphobia’ or homophobia is one such example,” she said, noting that it was not an isolated case.
“Teachers and school leaders involved in this insanity should be ashamed of themselves for projecting adult concepts and beliefs onto such young children.”
