Democrats have only a slight lead in voter favorability leading up to the midterm elections, indicating Republicans may retain control of the Senate.

“This lead is historically low for Democrats at this point with a Republican president,” said Harry Enten, CNN’s chief data analyst, Monday. “On average, their lead is five points.

“That’s less than it was back in 2018 when it was eight points, and way less than it was during the 2006 cycle, when it was 11 points.”

The margin might be enough to take the House, where Republicans hold a slight edge, but Enten displayed a Senate map indicating the GOP would likely retain a 51-49 majority in the upper chamber.
