A 104-year-old World War II Army veteran hit every vibrant note of the National Anthem on his saxophone at a New York Islanders game Saturday.

Dominick Critelli, sporting a number 104 Islanders jersey and a WWII veterans’ hat, walked to his chair and played the Star-Spangled Banner, inspiring chants of “USA.”

Critelli, born March 8, 1921, fought both at Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge, as a member of the 378th Infantry Regiment in an Artillery Aviation Unit, according to Mission Margraten Plus. His unit flew intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions as well as identified enemy locations and supply lines.

During the Battle of the Bulge, Critelli flew 14 supply missions in four days. Dozens of bullets pierced his plane as it dropped medicine and food to American troops, trapped behind enemy lines.

After the war, Critelli was awarded the Air Medal for his heroic service, as well as the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, the American Theater Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
