Christian singer Forrest Frank revealed over the weekend that his tribute to Charlie Kirk’s death cost him 30,000 social media followers, but stressed he’s unshaken, because his prayer is that people would follow Jesus, not him or any person.
The Your Way’s Better artist made the comments three days following an Instagram post in which he applauded Kirk’s boldness for his faith. That earlier post – written shortly after the assassination – also featured a clip of Kirk declaring that Gen Z is experiencing a revival.
“Thirty thousand people unfollowed me because I posted about Charlie Kirk and I said that Jesus Christ is Lord,” Frank began.
“Good – I don’t want you to follow me. I don’t want you to track my music. I don’t want you to come to my shows. I don’t want you to do any of that if you don’t get this one thing, and that is: Follow Jesus Christ, the King of all kings, the Lord of all lords, the One who is, the One who is to come.”
Frank’s message was clear: Don’t follow me – follow Jesus.
“He’s coming back real soon. So if you have not gotten your heart right with Him and dropped down on your knees and repented to Him, today is the day, the hour is at hand,” he said.
Frank isn’t the only Christian artist to have spoken out following Kirk’s assassination.
Anne Wilson posted a picture of Frank alongside a message: “Charlie was such a bold voice for my generation. He stood for truth when it wasn’t easy and lived his faith with so much courage, and it’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that he’s gone because of such a senseless, hate-filled act.”
Brandon Lake recorded a video where he declared, in part, “I am angry. I’m frustrated. I don’t care if you believe in what he believed or the way he was doing it – the man was representing Christ in the way he felt called to represent Christ, and he lost his life over it.”
Tauren Wells wrote the day of Kirk’s death, “Senseless acts of violence, motivated by demonic forces of hatred, should provoke something deep in the heart of all people to wake up to the godless ignorance that is rampant in the hearts and minds of people. Especially, the Church, should be provoked into taking our spiritual position of intercession to activate our prayers and all of heaven’s forces to wage war against our invisible enemies!”
Frank said he experienced a “heaviness” after Kirk’s death, adding that “something shifted.” He also signaled that he was ready to step out with greater boldness for Christ.
“And i repent for ways i’ve allowed my platform to be a lukewarm highlight real,” Frank wrote in the newest post. “From here on out i’m using as much energy as i can to let people know about the only thing that matters.”
Frank has more than 5 million followers on Instagram alone.
The “heaviness,” Frank said, is spiritual.
“I think if I could summarize it, whether you know it or not, it is an angst for the return of Jesus, for the return of justice,” Frank wrote in the earlier post. “Charlie was so bold with his message. … I don’t feel comfortable using this platform to share music without stripping everything away, and like Charlie did, speak my mind to the core.
“And the reality is that Jesus Christ is the only way. And He’s coming back soon, and when He does, every single knee will bow, and it’s time to repent and get your life right, because we don’t know if today is our last day.”
